For A While, Falachan Valley, Bathad, Kullu

Listen to the murmur of the gurgling Phalachan, enjoy the sport of fly fishing, get your hands dirty playing with clay, meander through quaint villages and lush deodar forests, savour the chirping of many a bird. Relax, unwind and give in to the magic of the mountains. Be here for a while. And take back something that’ll linger a lot longer. 


Situated near the Tirthan valley, on one of its tributaries and in the eco zone of the Great Himalayan National Park, this place has much to offer. The valley has quite a reputation for trout fishing and you could try your hand at the beautiful sport of fly fishing. There are ample trails and treks for those with varying degree of enthusiasm and preparedness. We also have a ceramic art centre and are happy to help you get your hands dirty learning pottery. With over 200 species of birds here, Bird watching enthusiasts will find plenty to explore and document, with the brown dipper making a regular appearance and the lammergeier an occasional one.  

For a While has two comfortable cottages and two new rooms with a river view The cottages have been made with local materials like pine wood, stone and slate. Both the floors of these double level cottages come with a bukhari to keep you warm and snug when the temperature dips. Large windows on all three sides offer you spectacular views of the valley.  Each cottage can accommodate two adults and two children.  The cottages have a sitting place and a small pantry at the ground level. The pantry, while not elaborate, is enough for that morning cup of tea or coffee that you'd like to enjoy in solitude. Each of the new rooms can accommodate two adults. 

Getting here

The nearest airport is at Bhuntar, Kullu. It will take you about two hours from the airport to get here. There are many overnight luxury buses that will drop you at Aut which is an hour and a half away from our place.  Take a Delhi-Manali bus, and get off at Aut, just after the tunnel. HPTDC runs buses from Mandi House in Delhi which are both comfortable and convenient. If you prefer driving, it'll take you 12 hours to get here. Delhi to Bathad is 505 kms. The route is Delhi, Karnal, Ambala, Banur, Kharar, Ropar, Kiratpur, Swarghat, Bilaspur, Mandi, Pandoh - Aut (don't go into the tunnel and turn right towards Larji) , Bali Chowki, Sai Ropa, Gushaini, Tung, Bathad. A two kilometer dirt track from Bathad will get you to For a While in the Village Galihar.
